Timing chain guides

Timing chain guides

Sometimes the guides for the timing chain are damaged, causing pieces of the guides to break off. Sometimes this is not caught early enough and the pieces of broken guide is minced by the engine. In such a case, the sump needs to be removed to clean out all the debris. Of course, the guide rails are then also replaced. It has happened that the debris damaged the oil pump’s pick-up, which then needs replacing as well. This example here has been the worst damage we’ve seen caused by this scenario. The debris got stuck in the oil pump, causing the metal to crack.
